Crafting the Custom Smoke Hood
If you’ve been keeping up with the blog, you might have seen my latest post about designing and fabricating a custom smoke hood. After the flue was installed, I realised the space above the grill wasn’t optimised for smoke extraction. This led to the creation of a tapered hood with a cylinder that fits perfectly into the flue, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of smoke. Shaping the Handwheels – A Step Closer to Perfection
Recently, I shared a video on Instagram showing the process of correcting the 3D printed shape of the two bronze cast handwheels that will control the grill’s height. These handwheels are a key design element that reflects the attention to detail in the grill. The mould is now ready for the first test cast, and I can’t wait to see how they turn out. This is another step that brings us closer to completing the fabrication.

Fabrication Update – Nearing Completion
The fabrication of the grill is now about 80% complete. I am making one to install in my home and one to show for potential future orders. This has been an incredibly rewarding process, watching each part come together. I’ve recently ordered the grill angles for the surface, which will play a key role in how the grill handles various cooking styles. The machining is nearly finished as well—I’m just waiting on the rollers to be completed.
The Stencilled Logo Glow – Adding the Final Touches
One of the unique features of the first version of the design was the plate over the face of the brazier basket. I’ve decided to bring this back; this time, the plate will have a stencilled logo cutout. When the fire is lit, the glow will shine through the BRIAR logo, creating a nice visual effect. This small detail is another example of what the grill is all about—combining functionality with thoughtful design to create something truly special.
Visual Progress – Sneak Peeks and Photos
I’ve taken some photos of the recent work, including the stencilled logo and the handwheel moulds. These images give a glimpse into the work and attention to detail that’s going into every aspect of the BRIAR Grill. I’m excited to share these with you and give you a closer look at what’s been happening behind the scenes.
What’s Next?
As we move into the final stages of the BRIAR Grill’s creation, there’s still more to come. I’m looking forward to sharing the results of the first test cast for the handwheels and the final assembly of the grill. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, I appreciate your support and enthusiasm as we bring BRIAR Grill to life. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, I’d love to hear from you!
